We had An early morning in Dubai for our 735 flight to Casablanca. It’s always important to get a seat were the person behind you from Saudi Arabia does not out his feet up on the window sill of your seat – the odour was impressive. A quick change of seats later we were on our way to morocco .
Immigration at casablanca airport was a cosmopolitan place, a mix of Arabic French and western tourists, all slightly worse for wear from our early morning flights. Catching a local train into town 30 km away was remarkable easy – our tickets purchased from a self service vending machine operated full time by a guy operating the touch screen for anyone – and yes we had to tip him 🙂 This followed a slow walk into town with our lonely planet (LP) to our hotel. Casablanca seems a interesting mix of old French architecture with Arabic/african influences. It seemed as if our hotel had never received the hostel world booking form ; very intrigued as to who had confirmed our arrival. None the less we had a great room – with complimentary wifi access from someone In the neighbour hood who forgot to lock their network.
Off to dinner, we managed to find a restaurant next to out ‘third choice’ place, that LP somewhat outdated. The Targines were an amazing blend of flavours finished with hearty Moroccan soup. A great end to a long day !
