Our day started with fantastic Moroccan pastries and coffee with creme, from our ‘local’. ( he was a little disappointed we didn’t stay around today and ordered takeaways). We walked to the medina along blouoloavd Mohammad V with its beautiful French inspired architecture. A state of the art tram running along the bulovaed, juxtaposed against the average taxi which had done 301000km.
The medina was a matrix of small alleys with its shops selling everything- a ‘boy’ scarf was what I needed for the desert. To be honest I’m surprised about the level of hassling, very minimal compared to many other country’s I’ve been to. It’s a shame I don’t speak French, as most people in the city speak it. I’m learning slowly, my signed language is pretty full proof though as a back up.
A traditional lunch of egg and salted meat cooked in a Targine, washed down with a espresso and freshly squeezed OJ.
We walk through town towards Harbous quarter or the ‘old’ more traditional part of town. It’s amazingly relaxed as we walk freely amoungst olive sellers around the kings official residence. Interestingly the LP only gives this place a brief mention. A real shame to be honest as the market as a traditional honest feel to it, and its crossed Arabic-French archiecture beautiful.
A long day finished off with a Targine – a trip up the coast planned for tomorrow.
