Stuck in the mud

Waking up to an awesome view across the harbour, we had a great morning skyping, then left just before lunch to explore these beautiful beaches that has the tourists flocking in. Beach number one – white plastic deck chairs lined up in rows and columns on the beach with resorts backing immediately on the beach, and a small area marked out in the sea as a swim area = we flagged that one! We figured most of the beaches on the peninsula would be similar, we were after a plain beach where people just lie on the sand and everyone could enjoy the natural beautiful surroundings (?beach snobs)
We ended up at a small bay close to Akyaka for lunch (cheap picnic lunch of sandwiches), Scott took a swim in freezing water, and we found a nice looking beach but it was covered in rubbish and owned by a pack of stray dogs, it had beautiful water though.
Scott had found out about some thermal pools on the edge of a lake not far off the main road so we decided to check it out. 30 km later and having dodged a multitude of large pot holes, we pulled up into a quiet 2 star resort, complete with chickens, dogs and the smell of Rotorua (sulphur/rotten eggs) – we must be in the right place. The changing rooms smelled of urine and the thermal pools looked stagnant and dirty so we skipped those. We couldn’t pass on the mud pool though! Unfortunately Scott cut his foot in the changing rooms so he had to keep his foot out of the mud the whole time – one weird factor was the mud made us very buoyant so floating was easy and the foot stayed petty clean.
A pretty amazing way to spend the afternoon looking out over a huge lake, covered in mud.
Arriving in Fethiye, we were nervous about our 40 lira room we’d booked – as it turned out, we got a two bedroom apartment, with living and kitchen and TV, nothing to complain about at all! We filled ourselves with an Italian dinner ( Scott was so hungry he had two large mains) and couldn’t help people watching – this town was teeming with generously sized middle-aged pasty British, (mainly ladies) who walked around with little on and their bra/singlet straps hanging down their arms to avoid getting tan lines. It was one classy place!

All in all, a great lunch, some soothing mud, and a full tummy. 20130607-223931.jpg20130607-224335.jpg20130607-224354.jpg20130607-224343.jpg20130607-225047.jpg20130607-224803.jpg
