Day trip south to El Jadida

With four days in casablanca and needing only two of them to explore the city, we decided to catch a train one hour south to the Portuguese town of El Jadida, pop 148,000. We wondered inside the gorgeous fortress and medina (gained world heritage status in 2004) where people live and foreigners are buying old buildings to renovate them into their former glory and use them as summer get-always to the beach during the hot summer. Apparently the city is going to be transformed over the next ten years due to foreign sales and interest.
The locals were less friendly than in casablanca but maybe they’re not use to tourists.
We saw the Cisterne purtugaise which is a vaulted cistern lit by a single shaft of light, made famous by the film Othello. It was quite eerie, but the reflection of the light and the detail of the inside of the cistern in the water was amazing!! Would be a great example to use when studying light in physics.
Caught the train home and ate tea at a Spanish restaurant while watching soccer, great atmosphere and staff. Looking forward to moving onto the next city (capital Rabat) with Intrepid!!
